Who’s playing
This is a visual art exhibition centered on Omaha artist Bill J. Hammon, whose practice spanned painting, murals, and sculpture. The program also includes related perspectives from Ray Christensen, Megan McCoy, Nicholas Newman, and Roger Lempke, with talk topics connected to Hammon’s public projects, a Hammon homage installation, mid-century modern context, and the Pershing mural.
What to expect
Expect the first-ever retrospective of Hammon’s work, presented at the UNO Art Gallery in Omaha’s Weber Fine Arts Building. The exhibition focuses on his influence in Omaha’s mid-century art scene, his broad creative practice, and the commissioned works that helped embed his art in the city’s cultural landscape. Paper bead workshops with artist Megan McCoy invite participants of any experience level to contribute beads for an installation tied to the Hammon exhibition.
Why go
Hammon in Mid-Century Omaha Exhibition offers a focused look at an artist whose work is woven into Omaha’s public and cultural history, but whose full career has not previously received a retrospective treatment. For visitors interested in local art, public murals, mid-century design, or Omaha’s creative heritage, the show connects individual works to the larger story of how artists shape a city’s visual identity.
