About this event
Based on an original poem and characters created by Tim Burton, the film was first released in 1993 as The Nightmare Before Christmas. Directed by Henry Selick (James and the Giant Peach), the film follows the earnest-but-misguided adventures of Jack Skellington, Halloween Town’s beloved Pumpkin King. Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine of Halloween, Jack longs to try something new. Convinced that he can spread the joy of Christmas and against the advice of Sally, a caring and clever ragdoll, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters – Lock, Shock, and Barrel – to kidnap Santa Claus. But Jack’s merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere. For the respect and consideration of all Omaha Symphony patrons, children under 5 years of age are prohibited from attending this performance.
Who's playing
The Omaha Symphony performs Danny Elfman’s music live at the Holland Performing Arts Center, pairing the orchestra with a screening of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
What to expect
The concert presents the full film with live orchestral accompaniment, so audiences can watch Jack Skellington’s Christmas scheme unfold while the score is played in the room. Based on Tim Burton’s original poem and characters and directed by Henry Selick, the film blends Halloween Town mischief, Christmas curiosity, and Sally’s clear-eyed concern as Jack’s plan spins out of control.
Why go
For Omaha audiences, this event offers a different way to experience a familiar film: not just on screen, but with the Omaha Symphony bringing its music forward in a concert-hall setting. Fans of the movie’s offbeat characters and Elfman’s theatrical score get both the story and the sound world at full scale.
