Tour with Exhibiting Artists Miatta Kawinzi, Rachel Cox, and Rose Marie Cromwell

Saturday, June 6 at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha

Join the exhibiting artists as they each discuss their work in Miatta Kawinzi: An Alphabet of Unfolding and MOTHER TIME: Measuring ourselves within the landscape.

What to expect

This artist-led tour centers on direct discussion with Miatta Kawinzi, Rachel Cox, and Rose Marie Cromwell as they each speak about their work on view at Bemis Center. Kawinzi’s exhibition spans mixed media, sculpture, video, text, and layered photographic and sculptural forms connected to hybridity, memory, sustenance, and the African diaspora. Cox and Cromwell’s “MOTHER TIME” brings together photographic practices that examine closeness—emotional, physical, and spatial—through portraits and narratives of tenderness, vulnerability, family, public life, and private experience.

Why go

For visitors interested in contemporary art, photography, and artist process, this tour offers a chance to hear the ideas behind the exhibitions from the artists themselves. It’s a direct way to engage with two major Bemis Center exhibitions in Omaha: Kawinzi’s expansive, multisensory exploration of cultural lineage and Cox and Cromwell’s shared dialogue around connection, memory, care, and what it means to witness and be witnessed.
