In Search of the Signers

Sunday, August 2 at The Durham Museum, Omaha

The Durham Museum $17

About

Omaha’s first real estate agent, Byron Reed, assembled one of the nation’s most important collections of coinage and manuscripts. Reed also sought a signature from each signer, and today, the Byron Reed Collection includes documents related to 49 of the 56 signers. The Durham Museum is proud to preserve and feature it in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

What to expect
The exhibition features original letters, receipts and other documents from the Byron Reed Collection tied to signers of the Declaration of Independence. It also includes a reproduction of John Trumbull’s painting “Declaration of Independence,” connecting the documents on view with one of the best-known images of the nation’s founding.
Why go
In Search of the Signers offers a close look at how a major Omaha collection preserves pieces of early United States history. For visitors to The Durham Museum, it is a focused way to explore the people behind the Declaration through surviving manuscripts and related materials gathered by Byron Reed.
