In Search of the Signers

Monday, August 3 at The Durham Museum, Omaha

The Durham Museum $17

About

Omaha’s first real estate agent, Byron Reed, assembled one of the nation’s most important collections of coinage and manuscripts. Reed also sought a signature from each signer, and today, the Byron Reed Collection includes documents related to 49 of the 56 signers. The Durham Museum is proud to preserve and feature it in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

What to expect
The exhibition features original letters, receipts and other documents from the Byron Reed Collection tied to Declaration signers, along with a reproduction of John Trumbull’s “Declaration of Independence.” Visitors can trace how collectors pursued signatures from all 56 signers and see how Reed’s Omaha-based collection preserves a rare paper trail from early United States history.
Why go
In Search of the Signers offers a local connection to a national milestone, showing how a major collection assembled in Omaha helps tell the story of the Declaration of Independence. For history-minded visitors and families, The Durham Museum setting adds context to an exhibition centered on original manuscripts, collecting, and the country’s founding documents.
