About this event
An abundance of music by England’s favorite adopted composer, George Frideric Handel, flows throughout this program anchored by selections from all three Water Music suites. In between, thrill to the splendor of St. Cecilia Cathedral’s Pasi Organ and the “velvet-toned” baritone Edward Vogel (BBC Music Magazine), performing powerful arias from Agrippina, Jeptha, and Messiah.
Who's playing
The Omaha Symphony presents this Cathedral Baroque program in collaboration with Saint Cecilia Cathedral. Official event details list Susanna Perry Gilmore as leader and artistic director, Edward Vogel as featured baritone, and Marie Rubis Bauer as continuo and soloist.
What to expect
Handel is the focus throughout: orchestral selections from all three Water Music suites form the backbone of the concert, while vocal arias from Agrippina, Jeptha, and Messiah add dramatic contrast. The program also makes use of St. Cecilia Cathedral’s Pasi Organ, a defining instrument of the Omaha venue.
Why go
This is a chance to hear Handel’s Baroque writing in a cathedral environment chosen specifically for the Symphony Cathedral series. The mix of Water Music, organ, and baritone arias gives the concert both ceremonial sweep and intimate detail inside one of Omaha’s notable sacred arts spaces.
