Sunday, October 11 at St Cecilia Cathedral Cultural Center & Gallery, Omaha
St Cecilia Cathedral Cultural Center & Gallery · Midtown $35
About this event
An abundance of music by England’s favorite adopted composer, George Frideric Handel, flows throughout this program anchored by selections from all three Water Music suites. In between, thrill to the splendor of St. Cecilia Cathedral’s Pasi Organ and the “velvet-toned” baritone Edward Vogel (BBC Music Magazine), performing powerful arias from Agrippina, Jeptha, and Messiah. For the respect and consideration of all Omaha Symphony patrons, children under 5 years of age are prohibited from attending this performance.
Who's playing
The program is presented by the Omaha Symphony in collaboration with Saint Cecilia Cathedral. Omaha Symphony Concertmaster Susanna Perry Gilmore leads as artistic director, with baritone Edward Vogel featured alongside Marie Rubis Bauer as continuo and soloist, and Dr. Michael J. Emmerich associated with the cathedral’s Pasi Organ.
What to expect
Expect an all-Handel Baroque program that moves between the buoyant orchestral writing of Water Music and vocal arias drawn from Agrippina, Jeptha, and Messiah. The setting at St Cecilia Cathedral Cultural Center & Gallery gives the concert a distinctive Omaha cathedral sound, with the Pasi Organ adding color and scale to the program.
Why go
This is a focused way to hear Handel beyond a single famous excerpt: the concert gathers selections from all three Water Music suites and places them beside dramatic and sacred arias. For listeners who enjoy Baroque music, historic cathedral acoustics, or the Omaha Symphony in a more intimate sacred-arts setting, Symphony Cathedral Baroque: Handel's Water Music offers a clear, composer-centered program.
