Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center
About this event
Flute Area students perform at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center lobby from 12-12:45pm, 505 S. 45th St. The event is free and open to the public. This partnership is made possible by the School of Music & generous support from the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine Healing Arts program.
Who's playing
The performers are students from the UNO flute area. The campus flute studio is led by Dr. Christine Beard, who focuses on tone, technique and musicianship. Past Sound Health flute programs have featured her studio. The students gain real performing experience in a setting outside the concert hall.
What to expect
A short lobby performance, about 45 minutes, in the open entry space of the cancer center. People come and go, so listeners can stay for a piece or for the full set. Sound Health is part of the School of Music's Citizen Musician program, which sends students into non-traditional spaces. The cancer center hosts several UNO groups through the school year, with each music area taking a turn.
Why go
The music is there to add to the environment of care, and it works as a quiet break in the middle of a day on the Omaha medical campus. It is also a chance to hear young flutists try out their repertoire in a community setting. The series is a partnership with the Healing Arts program, which fills the building with live music throughout the year.
