Who's playing
The UNO Percussion Ensemble is directed by Dr. Hannah Weaver and was founded in 2000 by Dr. Tomm Roland. Most members are percussion majors, though students from other majors can audition. The group has played the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and has toured in Nebraska, Japan and China.
What to expect
The ensemble's repertoire runs from classical percussion ensemble pieces to western popular music and non-western traditional music, so the sound changes a lot across a program. Expect a stage full of marimbas, vibraphones, drums and other instruments, with players moving between them. The Concert Hall seats 422 on two levels and is known for its acoustics.
Why go
This is a chance to hear a long-running university ensemble in a proper hall, at a price you set yourself. Percussion-only concerts are uncommon in Omaha, and watching the players work through the instruments is half the fun. The program is a good fit for music fans, families, and students curious about UNO's School of Music.
